Initial Consultation


What to expect in an initial consultation

The Initial Consultation is a great chance for us to get to know each other. It is really important that you feel both comfortable in the environment and confident in the process, so I’ll do my best to put you at ease; to answer any questions you may have and to ensure I have a clear understanding of why you are seeking my help and how you would like things to be different in your life in the future.

I will also gather some general information and personal details which will help me to ensure that I am providing the best possible treatment for you.

I will explain what is happening in your brain in certain circumstances, why you are feeling as you do and what we can do to help bring about changes. I might even draw a picture or two!

Together we will set out achievable personal goals and we will work towards them in subsequent sessions.

The Initial Consultation will take approximately 50 minutes.

What is hypnosis/ trance like?

Unlike the hype of stage hypnotism, clinical hypnosis / trance is a very natural state that we all go in and out of many times a day.

It’s just like those moments when time passes without you noticing, like when you’re exercising at the gym, driving to work or listening to your favourite music.

This relaxed state of awareness allows you to access the creative resources that your subconscious mind possesses. Tapping into these will help to bring about the positive changes you seek.

The most important thing is that you will always remain in control. Whether your mind drifts or whether you focus on every word I say, you will feel comfortable, safe and relaxed.

I will also provide you with a copy of my relaxation MP3. Please listen to it each night just before you go to sleep. This will enhance the impact of the therapeutic work we do and hasten your progress towards your goals.

Subsequent Hypnotherapy Sessions


These will typically last approximately 50 mins and will incorporate both Solution focused psychotherapy and trance techniques.

During the sessions, rather than dwelling on problems, we will instead focus on making small positive changes – designed to move you towards your preferred future.

I will gently encourage you to start noticing the positive things (no matter how small) that have made you feel good during the past week. Together we will begin to imagine how your future could be, as you take those positive first steps towards your goals.

During the second part of the session, I will guide you towards a relaxed trance state and let you consolidate those positive changes. It really is amazing! You get to feel deeply relaxed while your subconscious is doing all the hard work!

Stopping Smoking/Vaping


If you are committed to stopping smoking or vaping, this one-off intensive session can help you make the change to a smoke free future.

The session combines practical information and effective therapeutic techniques. I will use the latest scientific research to help you conquer the habit. This includes an extended trance session and a relaxation MP3 to consolidate what we have achieved in the session.

And even better news! These sessions work just as effectively online, so distance really is no object if you are determined to become a non-smoker.

How many Sessions might I expect to have?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy works quickly compared to other forms of therapy you may have experienced.

I can give you an indication of how many sessions may be required at the Initial Consultation (although, of course, this may vary depending on your reasons for seeking therapy).

As a general guide, if you are committed to making the changes and to embracing the therapeutic process, then positive changes can quickly be achieved. For example:

  • Specific phobias such as a fear of spiders, snakes, heights etc., can be covered in 3 or 4 hypnotherapy sessions.
  • Anxiety-related issues, low mood and complex phobias can be helped in approximately 8-12 sessions.
  • Stopping smoking or Vaping can be achieved in one intensive session.

I would recommend that we meet weekly to begin with but I appreciate that this may not always be possible in today’s hectic world. But as long as you are committed to working towards your therapeutic goals, I will always apply flexibility to our schedule. For example, as you become more confident in your own ability to continue what we have started, it may be appropriate to meet less often.

How do I pay?

For Initial Consultations and general hypnotherapy sessions booked via the online booking system, a deposit of 25% will be taken at the time of booking. The remainder of the fee will be taken at the end of the session.

For a smoking/ vaping cessation session or to take advantage of the weight management block booking discount , a deposit of 50% will be taken at the time of the online booking. The remainder of the balance will be due at the beginning of the initial session.

Payment for subsequent sessions booked in person will be taken at the end of the session and can be taken by debit/ credit card or via BACS.

Please note: You can reschedule your appointment up to 24 hours ahead and your deposit will be transferred over to your new booking. You may cancel for free up to 24 hours ahead, otherwise you will be charged 50% of the service price for late cancellation or 100% for not showing up.
